Local authorities in England, Scotland, Wales (Part IIA of the Environmental Protection Act, 1990) and Northern Ireland (Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order, 1997) have responsibilities as regulators and other statutory duties that include assessment and in some cases, remediation of contaminated sites.

Managed by CIRIA, the Local Authority Contaminated Land Network (LACL) was established in 2002 to help local authority officers address their responsibilities and duties involving land contamination and to encourage good practice in the redevelopment of Brownfield sites.

Only local authorities are able to become members of the network, however, non-local authority organisations can attend the workshops. For further details please contact Joanne Kwan on 020 7549 3300 or joanne.kwan@ciria.org.

There are now LACL members in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, many of which form large regional groups or "clusters". To check if your local authority is a LACL member please click here.

Further details about LACL are available on a PowerPoint presentation that can be viewed here.
